Loans of skins and/or egg sets will be made to qualified researchers at other institutions. Written requests for these materials should be directed to the Curator. Requests must be on institutional letterhead, along with a brief description of the project. Student researchers must have the loan request co-signed by their advisor or the Curator who will be responsible for the care of the material during the loan period.
By signing the loan request, researchers are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:
-
Loans are made for an initial period of six months; longer loan periods can be requested, as can extensions after the initial loan period expires. Neither loaned materials, nor data from them, can be transferred to second parties without written permission from the Curator.
-
Loan specimens must be housed in such a way as to prevent damage or loss; preferably, the specimens should be housed in an appropriate museum environment. Specimens may not be altered in any fashion and material (e.g., feathers, tissue clippings) may not be removed from them. Alterations and/or additions to specimen tags are not permitted, and taxonomic changes should be conveyed to the Curator in writing upon return of the loan.
-
Specimens must be returned as they were sent: carefully packed in the same packaging and with the same insurance value. The Marjorie Barrick Museum will bear the cost of shipping the loan to the requester; the cost of return shipment must be borne by the requester.
-
Any published material that includes results based in total or in part on Marjorie Barrick Museum specimens must include an acknowledgment of the Marjorie Barrick Museum - UNLV. Authors should send two copies of these published materials to the Curator.
