Services

The scientists in the Microbiology Division are full-time employees of the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (HRC) and are non-tenure track, professional staff members of the Nevada System of Higher Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  They do not have a teaching commitment, and can focus their time and attention on high quality projects.

Principal Investigators secure these projects via contracts and competitive grants.  HRC microbiologists have experience in conducting research under confidentiality agreements, and have expertise in performing all aspects of research projects in support of their clients, from experimental design to report writing.

The HRC is a non-profit research center; therefore, the Microbiology Division is able to offer a highly competitive price structure.  In addition, the HRC provides administrative and accounting support for the various services offered by the Microbiology Division.

Contract services include:

  • research involving the detection and enumeration of microorganisms in the air and on surfaces, with emphasis on indoor mold contamination and counterterrorism applications
  • bioaerosol generation in room-sized research chambers to test the effectiveness of air purifiers, anti-microbial and decontamination agents, and biosensors
  • efficiency determination of air and surface sampling methods
  • training of first responders and other clients, featuring laboratory and classroom exercises in the collection and analysis of biological agents
