Title of Data: AL5 Ratio Data: Seismic recordings of 13 magnitude 2 or larger earthquakes during 1999 at station AL5, in the Exploratory Studies Facilities (ESF) and station RPY on the ground surface above.

Description: Earthquake recordings at two stations, AL5 in the Exploratory Studies Facility tunnel in Yucca Mountain and RPY on the surface of Yucca Mountain for thirteen nearby magnitude 2 or larger earthquakes in 1999. Earthquakes were only included if they were well recorded by both stations. Data include ASCII reformatted seismic data files of previously submitted data and sensor-corrected binary data in SAC and ASCII format.

Comments: This submittal presents previously submitted seismograms in alternative formats. ASCII format is submitted for ease of use by seismic engineers. The data used as inputs were recorded under controlled procedures in 1999. The work described in the Acquistion/Development method field were performed at University of Nevada, Reno Seismology Laboratory from August through October 2005.

Procedures used:

  • QAP- 3.0, "Scientific Investigation Control", Rev. 10, DCN #4.

    Software used:
    SAC 00.46 (10085-00.46-00)

Acquisition/Development Method: Earthquakes in calendar year 1999 with a magnitude of 2 or more were found in the Yucca Mountain area's seismic catalog, from all such earthquakes, we find those that both station AL5 and RPY recorded the earthquake well on all three channels. These events were copied from controlled University of Nevada Reno archives into even submittal subdirectories named by the day -of-year of the earthquake. We then use the controlled software (SAC) to make ASCII and sensor-corrected versions of the seismograms. No measurements or manual changes were made at any point.

Location(s): University of Nevada, Reno - Nevada Seismology Laboratory

    Start/End Period: 01/05/1999 - 05/11/1999

Other Management Information: These data were acquired or developed under project activity ORD-FY04-006 of the NSHE/YMP Cooperative Agreement # DE-FC28-04RW12232.

    Source Data Usage Information
012DV.013 Source data were copied using a verified method from the original digital copies in controlled University of Nevada, Reno archives. Recordings of all magnitude 2 or greater earthquakes at station AL5 and RPY were manually reviewed to find recordings that were clear on all three channels at both stations. The thirteen earthquakes with clear recordings were moved into subdirectories named by the day- of-year of the earthquake. The binary original seismograms were read with a controlled version of the Seismic Analysis Code (SAC) and exported with that program in ASCII format to the same directory. A second version of the AL5 data was exported in binary SAC and ASCII format from which the sensor reponse was removed above a frequency of 0.2 Hz.
