Our Mission

The Arboretum at UNLV serves the campus,  the community, and the region through displays of flora adaptable to southern  Nevada, the Mojave Desert, and other arid regions.  The plant collection supports teaching and research, enhances campus beauty, and fosters awareness of plants in the human environment.

Welcome to the Arboretum website.  At UNLV the entire campus is dedicated to the display and study of plants suited to our high desert climate – primarily trees, shrubs, vines, cacti, and succulents.  After browsing through our website, we hope you will be inspired to visit the Arboretum at UNLV.

Click on “Collections” to find information about our living plant collections – plants from around the world that are adaptable to landscapes throughout the Las Vegas Valley and adjacent parts of southern Nevada.

Under “Education” you will find fact sheets about plants and animals in the Xeric Garden, the centerpiece of the Arboretum.

If you would like to take a 1.2-mile self-guided tour of the Arboretum, click on “Tours”.  The tour will take you through the heart of campus where you will see some of our champion trees, memorial gardens, unusual architecture, and a Claes Oldenburg sculpture.

The Arboretum’s Long-Range Plan, including information about the history of the Arboretum and how we take care of our collections, can be found under “About Us”.

Click on “Newsletters” for recent issues.

Getting Here

The UNLV campus is located in the heart of the city, just east of the Las Vegas Strip.  From the Strip, take Harmon east onto the UNLV campus.  Harmon ends in our parking lot.  During classes, parking is in high demand.  Look for metered public parking throughout the campus.
