EH&S Training

  1. Right-to-Know – This class is mandatory for all UNLV employees and needs to be taken only once.  However, if you work in a laboratory, you will need to take the Chemical Hygiene course instead.

OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1200 requires that all employers must provide employees, who use hazardous materials, training that informs the employees of their “Right to Know” about the hazards associated with the materials with which they work.  This training teaches the employees how to obtain information regarding these hazards and how to protect themselves and their co-workers.

  1. Chemical Hygiene – This class is required for all employees who work with chemicals on a daily basis, for example, laboratory personnel.  This course needs to only be taken once.

  1. Lockout/Tagout – This class is mandatory for all UNLV employees and needs to be taken only once.

The lockout class is about the control of hazardous energy (electrical, mechanical, chemical etc.) and the prevention of unexpected “re-energization” or start-up of machines and equipment.  The class is geared towards users of equipment being serviced and the personnel in the area where the machines or equipment are.  OSHA mandates that all UNLV employees be trained/informed of the hazards and the procedures to ensure that the employees do not attempt to re-start any machines or equipment that are locked out or tagged.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – This class is required for all employees who wear PPE in their line of work.  This class needs to be taken once.

5.  Respirator Awareness – This class is required for all employees who wear respirators.  This class needs to taken once.  An annual refresher course is required and is normally provided with the respirator fit test.
