Safety Organization Changes

 

·         UNLV campus organization name changed to “Risk Management and Safety”

·         Website address is www.rms.unlv.edu

Gas Cylinders

 

·         Tank Farm in MSM-169-almost complete

·         Rad training required

·         Use of hand and foot monitors, locations? (Cerefice)

 

Chemical Inventory

 

        Nikki McGinnis will monitor HRC.  She will inventory low use labs quarterly and high use labs monthly.  She will work with Ben at RMS to share info and coordinate databases.

 

Hazardous Waste

 

·         EPA Region 9 walkthrough/inspection will occur March 2006.  Topics of concern:  satellite accumulation areas and storage of chemicals (labels readable and facing to front of cabinet).

·         No longer can use laboratory carts or mops outside the labs; a general purpose cart might be purchased and stored in the museum

 

Training

 

·         Rad training required of those who must access the tank farm in MSM-169.

 

Remodels/Upgrades

 

·         Status of 163, 234 and 236

        Wet lab will become a soils lab for the NSTG; student area will become a bottle washing and other use area.

·         Workers in construction areas.  Impact will be minimized as much as possible.

·         QA Division and Alex Heindl will be moved out of 2nd floor; NSTG staff will occupy the offices

·         Proximity Cards and Keys

  • Lab 165, 168, 173, 167, 208, 410, 146, 203, 306, 234 and 236
  • Aurali Dade, George Fratus and Tom O’Dou will be issued cards as well
  • Keys and cards to lab must be approved by User AFTER rad and Chemical Hygiene training (if required)
  • Alarms will remain on lab doors, arm automatically at 8pm unless laboratory personnel arm them manually at the end of the work day.
  • Keys still at facilities
    • Marlok: Front glass doors, Front office, back double doors, QA area
    • All other entrances exit only
